National Day of Prayer

Turn on the news or look at the news feeds on your phone and both are rife with stories of hardship: economic decline, weather related suffering, loss of jobs, injustices, fighting, war and the list goes on. It is so easy to become discouraged and even lose hope. But in the midst of all this chaos, we need to remember that Jesus Christ lives as victorious King and is seated on the right hand of God. And not only that, but we are also seated with Him. From this position of power and honor we have opportunity to use a source of great power called prayer.

Our God is a loving God, a powerful God; a gracious God; a righteous God, a victorious God, a forgiving God. He is a sovereign God who a has a plan for this world and each person in it. He is a Father who delights when His children approach Him in love and faith to talk to Him and listen to Him. And in His love and mercy He called us, forgiven us, and redeemed us through His Son, Jesus. In His grace, He has not only chosen to give us the Holy Spirit to live within us and intercede for us, but He has also called us to join the Holy Spirit as intercessors.

Our nation will have a privilege of uniting in intercession on May 7 which has been designated as the National Day of Prayer. The Spiritual Growth and Prayer Committee of Classis Grand Rapids South is planning to hold a Classis-wide prayer service on that day from 12:00-12:45 pm at Community CRC.

The theme for this year is “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations.” It is inspired by 1 Chronicles 16, focusing on unity, repentance, and spreading God’s glory across America and the world.

We encourage all Classis churches to advertise this opportunity in their bulletins and encourage members to join for a powerful time of prayer over and for our nation. Let’s unite with Christians across the United States in a time of prayer for our nation on May 7.
