I met a woman who lives in the neighborhood at our Feeding America Mobile Food Truck a few months ago. I started talking with her and asked how she was doing, and she was very touched by my interest and told me no one had asked her how she was doing in a very long time. At the end of that conversation, I got her address. I walked over to her house the next week to chat. I learned I had met her boyfriend previously when they had needed assistance from our emergency food pantry, and discovered she spends most days pretty isolated at home while her boyfriend is away at work.
I saw the opportunity to invite her to our Women’s Bible Study and coordinated a ride for her, and she’s been coming ever since! It was so rewarding to make that connection within our neighborhood and see it quickly turn into an opportunity for friendships and spiritual growth for her. She always stops by my office when she’s around for Bible study, and I really enjoy getting to talk with her and seeing her get more comfortable with the ladies in the Bible study.
