If it weren’t already taken, “Just do it” could be Moline Christian Reformed Church’s motto.

This is a church for “doers,” for people who want to get involved and do ministry with their hands and feet. Summer is a busy time at Moline. Not only do they run a large Vacation Bible School that draws many kids from the wider neighborhood, but they also send teams to work in Guatemala and set out on their Moline Love project.

For three days in June, they send teams out from the church to knock on doors and make themselves available for whatever people need. This ranges from a conversation to yard work to building wheelchair ramps. At the end, they host a free community carnival and pig roast. They’ve been sending people to minister in Guatemala for over 10 years. They’re up to two trips a year, with about 40 people per trip, working with orphanages and building houses.

They seek to honor and value each generation in their church. Every Sunday service contains a mix of contemporary and traditional music, organ and praise team, and all ages work together in practical missions.

Moline also values its partnerships with neighboring churches. They partner with Project Hope/Annetta Jansen Ministry Center in Dorr to provide free services for people in need. Every year, they coordinate a National Day of Prayer service with 20 nearby churches.

Some needs are practical (yard work, painting, building) while others are relational (a prayer, a listening ear, referrals to social service agencies). Projects are often one-time, but others become ongoing as the church and their neighbor develop a friendship. This is a wide-ranging ministry that includes a thrift store, food pantry, drop-off centers for cell phones for soldiers and eyeglasses for people overseas, toy drives for veteran’s organizations.
