Mission: Manga

As many of you know, Jabez Ministries is a disability ministry that operates largely on the campus of Grand Rapids Community College. We started as a disability ministry collaborative cohort within a previously established campus ministry in 2012.

In 2019 the pandemic lockdown happened and the return to campus in 2022 saw changes to College staff and policies that facilitated taking a fresh approach to doing ministry on campus.

I’ve reported recently on this ministry renting space in the college student life center and how well it’s been received by the students. That reception is not just by students with disabilities but students of all abilities as well.

There is a need for fellowship on campus presently. Perhaps as a result of the current polarization and tensions in today’s society. Whatever the cause, Jabez ministries is situated to meet that need.

Some of the things we have available at our fellowship table, including the spinners and fidget toys, are printed materials for evangelism and outreach. The most popular are some manga booklets provided by Tyler Rhodes, the Global Projects Coordinator for New Life Ministries. He is a missionary to Japan.

We met at a ministry fair this past march and he provided us with Manga, Japanese style comic books, based on the Bible. As you can see from the attached photos, they’re a hit with the students.

Manga, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the art form, is very popular among college students.

The semester is now at an end and please pray for the students as they take their exams and some are getting ready to graduate.

Thank you for your prayers and continued support!
