It really is. Love is amazing.
God’s love is over the top.
He loves us when we are unlovable. He loves us when we fail. He loves us when we don’t love Him. He loves us and seeks what is best for us. That’s what the Bible calls agape love, and it really is amazing. God loves us with an amazing love. And He calls us to love each other with that same kind of love. What’s more, God not only calls us to learn to love each other, He EMPOWERS us to love each other. He empowers us to be able to break down barriers, to be able to love unlovable people, to be able to love in a way we never could by our own strength.
We at Hillside had the opportunity not only to hear this truth but to experience it on a recent Sunday. We were joined by our brothers and sisters in Christ from City Hope Ministries for our Sunday morning services.
Hillside’s praise team led the worship, drawing us into God’s presence. Then a City Hope member—Joy—blessed God and us by dancing to the song, I Need You Now. This 17 year old young lady helped us to see our deep need for God—the One who can give us life. Then Pastor Rik led us in a study of I Corinthians 13:1-8 and powerfully challenged us to grasp God’s amazing love and then love each other—no matter the color of our skin or the neighborhood in which we live.
As we worshipped, learned, talked about ministry, and had coffee and cookies together, we experienced the joy of love, the taste of real Christian community. We got a little picture of what heaven is going to be like. And it was good. Very good.
