Recently in one of our City Hope Life Groups, a parent shared how their daughter had previously had such a hard time being part of a church, due to her disability. As a result, the family also had a hard time. After seeing someone they knew in the grocery store who was part of City Hope, they heard about the opportunity to be part of City Hope as an all abilities church, and became curious.
After visiting they saw City Hope as a church that could work mutually for them AND their daughter. It wasn’t long and they were part of the City Hope family. This is all too familiar an occurrence in our communities, when disability comes into play. After this story was shared in the group, we were all surprised, not because of it, but because of their daughter…you see, as part of City Hope she has a church family, and is one of the calmest, caring and gentle people to call City Hope home.
Clearly God is continuing to move, impacting individuals and families as we live out what it means to create a church of belonging for those with and without disabilities.
