Roberto and Felipe are brothers from Guatemala who are taking ESL and computer classes here at RPM. They are also involved in our weekly Bible study called Encuentros con Jesús (Encounters with Jesus). It has been exciting to watch them be impacted by Jesus as he is captured by the John in his gospel. While both of them are challenged daily by their struggle to speak and understand English, and Felipe deeply misses his wife and two daughters who are still in Guatemala, rather than question God’s goodness and love for them they are drawn to Christ’s compassionate heart. Felipe commented recently, “We need to remember that following a spiritual path can be difficult, but we also need to remember that Jesus himself invites us to study what he did in life and what he did for us.”
Both men have expressed their gratitude this year by giving back. They volunteered dozens of hours during our events, including our Fall coat drive. They helped us provide over 800 coats and an additional 1,200 warm winter apparel items to over 800 people. Then, one weekend they came in and transformed our dark and dingy women’s bathroom, repainting walls, ceiling, doors, and trim, at no charge – a labor of love. It’s a privilege to serve Jesus by serving people like Roberto and Felipe, and witness the life-transforming power of love in action.
