First Cutlerville CRC seeks to glorify God by worshipping Him whole heartedly, witnessing His love to all people, and working to bring His Kingdom into every area of life.

First Cutlerville CRC reaches out using some time-tested methods: working with children in the schools and through GEMS and Cadets, partnering with other ministries to fund and staff a food pantry, and visiting prisoners and helping them when they are released. But they also try new things. They’ve tilled a large area on their campus for a community garden, where the church and its neighbors can get to know each other while they work side by side in the soil. Their one-on-one mentoring program, Stephens Ministry, provides assistance for those in the congregation or the community who are in crisis.

Wednesday is Fellowship Night, with church members and neighbors sharing a meal. While the kids go off to GEMS and Cadets, the adults gather for Bible studies and other small groups. Of course, fellowship and discipleship training don’t end there. Besides dynamic youth ministries, many different groups meet throughout the week, from traditional women’s groups to Women of the Cloth, who craft together, to Young at Heart, who organize social activities for older adults.

These activities are grounded by their commitment to seek the Lord in prayer often and regularly. Prayer groups meet every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday to pray for the life and direction of the church, as well as to intercede for church members, attendees, and the community.

Investments & Connections

  • Kids Hope

    Members of First Cutlerville CRC receive training from Kids Hope USA and commit to spending one hour per week mentoring a child from Marshall Elementary School. They help with homework, but also teach study skills, organization, and provide encouragement. A prayer partner is assigned to each mentor-student pairing, as well. Many of the kids who are mentored begin coming to church for GEMS and Cadets, giving the church another opportunity to invest in their lives.

  • Youth Ministry

    Young people in Middle School and High School gather often to participate in meetings and activities to strengthen their faith and deepen their friendships. The Middle School Youth Group meets twice a month to share a meal, talk about the Bible and the Christian life, and play group games, in addition to sports outings and overnighters. The High School Youth Group holds meetings twice a month, also with a meal, a discussion and games. Also, they enjoy mission trips, youth conventions, and youth retreats at Grace Adventures.

Investments & Connections

  • Small Groups

    Small Groups are spreading throughout the congregation at Alger Park CRC. They meet in people’s homes, and are organized for various purposes. Some meet for Bible study, others for accountability, worship, or to engage in sports or specific hobbies. There are also groups aimed at people of specific times of life: young families, singles and couples in their 20s and 30s, senior citizens.

  • Childern & Students

    Alger Park CRC starts discipling their children young, with Little Lambs on Sunday mornings and Story Hour on Tuesday mornings. It continues through Sunday School and kicks into high gear on Wednesday evenings with GEMS and Cadets, when elementary students from the neighborhood and the congregation get to know each other. Every June, the church grounds and building are turned over to the large VBS program. Middle schoolers and high schoolers each have their own youth group, with regular meetings interspersed with lock-ins, retreats, backpacking trips, and service projects.

  • Disicipleship & Mentorship

    From the Deeper Roots Discipleship course, to the seven Bible studies for men and women, to the small household groups, Alger Park CRC seeks to give its members the message that they exist for God’s mission. Indeed, they have high participation in Kid’s Hope, a one-on-one academic mentoring program with students from Ken-o-Sha Elementary School, as well as with their own VBS.
