Approaching God
Ever wonder, “Who am I? Why am I here?” As you enter this time, focus on the words of Psalm 139: 13-16:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
Listening to God
As humans, we are consumed by creating our ideal identity and reputation. We spend so much time on how we wish to appear to be that we often lose the sense of who God has created us to be. Our true identity is in Christ. Our whole essence and being relies on the fact that we have unity in Christ. Galatians 3:26-29 says,
“So, in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Because of Christ, not only do we as Christian believers have unity, but also everyone who believes has their own unity with Jesus Christ. Because of Christ we are no longer just doctors, lawyers, teachers, students, or parents. We are made new. Our sins are wiped clean, our relationship with our Father is restored, and we have no reason to fear because of the power of salvation. Just as Christ is in us, we are in Christ.
Talking with God
After listening to what God says about unity in Christ, take the time to thank Him and praise Him for the power of that union and what it means in our own lives.
Responding to God
Because we know that our identity lies in unity with Christ, we can find who our God really created us to be. Take the time now to ask yourself: “Who am I? Why am I here?” Remember that you are defined by the union you have in Jesus Christ!
Surrendering to God
“Lord, thank you for the union we have in your son, Jesus Christ, and for the sacrifice He made so that we may be one. I pray that I can continually find my identity in Christ and not in worldly things. Remind me daily of the unity I have in Christ and the significance that it has in my daily life. Amen.”
