Among the people affected by the heavy monsoon rain in Myanmar are the people that make up the Christian Reformed Church in Myanmar (CRCM). The region affected by the flood includes the Chin hills region where the Chin people live and where the CRCM is located. Here you may watch a short BBC video with the devastating flood.
It is a positive sign that this time the Myanmar government has been requesting international aid, as at least 46 people and affected more than 210,000.
Myanmar’s infrastructure is not developed and AID access to many areas is extremely difficult as some communities are completely cut off by high waters or damaged roads. The government has admitted giving a weak response to the disaster, according to state media.
A state of emergency has been declared in several regions of Myanmar after the worst flooding in decades. Tens of thousands of homes have been destroyed. The country’s president has visited people living in temporary shelters and the army is leading relief efforts. (BBC)
We do pray for the church over there and for the entire country that suffers once again from this devastating natural disaster. One of our church planers in Myanmar wrote to us yesterday,
We are now staying at somebody’s house because of the flood here. The village is all flooded and covered by the water. Our house was flooded and most of our things also lost. Now we are staying with other people from the village. Rice and everything is expensive now because of flooding.
