Hanna (the middle student in the photo) joined Campus Ministry in Grand Rapids nearly two years ago and she graduates this week! She is just finishing up her degrees in criminal justice and psychology, and Grand Valley State University has equipped her to do amazing things with those degrees. But her formal education wasn’t the only way she has grown during her time at GVSU. She came to Campus Ministry two years ago looking for community and hoping to join one of our worship teams as an acoustic guitarist. Little did she know that playing the guitar was only the beginning of what the Lord had for her leadership at CM@GR!
After successfully auditioning as a guitarist with CM Grand Rapids, she quickly found herself growing into larger and larger roles in our community. After a couple months on the team, we added an unplugged microphone and encouraged her to start singing out as she played. A couple months later, she transitioned into co-leading the worship team with another student. Slowly we increased the volume on her microphone as her confidence and leadership grew.
This year, Hanna has been faithfully leading our community in worship as one of our worship arts interns. She leads a band of her own: equipping, encouraging, and raising up more worship leaders from among us. She studies the Word with a group of students and staff each week to help develop the sermon for Sunday nights, select songs for worship, and shape our gathering into a place of deep encounter with the Lord. She meets every-other week for discipleship with CM staff and has stepped into the role of disciplining others.
And along the way, she has developed an awesome community. We praise the Lord for emerging leaders like Hanna! Thanks for being a part a part of his work here in Grand Rapids!
