The Dock – Fall 2017 Report

As every organization and ministry has its ebbs and flows, tweaks and changes, one thing has stayed constant, our mission: Impacting students and transforming community by sharing Christ’s love. One of the tools used to accomplish this is scripture memorization. The picture above represents the heart and soul of this ministry.

John 3:16 is a fundamental scripture that many, if not all, Christians memorize. May the words of the beloved John forever be on our hearts and minds. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” ESV Over thirty students can now say that they memorized John 3:16.

These young ladies to the left are familiar faces at The DOCK. They are a delight and a joy to have around. In the third book of John, he penned, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” (3 John 1:4 NIV). I dare you to look at this picture and not smile or chuckle!

As the director of this ministry, I take my responsibility of transforming lives and making disciples for the Glory of God seriously. However, there are countless times when I laugh with and at these students because they bring an element of divine joy which can only be experienced first-hand.

Snack Shack

These students know the drill: Sign-in starts at 3:00 p.m., Cross-Talk at 3:25 p.m. and FOOD at 3:45 p.m.. Snack is the highlight of the afternoon. Teens LOVE food! Our volunteers spend countless hours cooking and prepping to fulfill one of the students basic needs: nourishment.

This month alone we averaged 51 students a day! It takes an army to feed an army!

Enlisted – 2017 Leadership Retreat

This year’s retreat was a memorable experience for the students attending. Because of generous donors and various foundations, we were able to bring 10 students to Camp Beechpoint to develop leadership skills, spiritual disciplines, relationship building, and to have fun. The theme this year was “Enlisted.”  We took the students on a journey through familiar Old Testament battles where God was the one who defeated the enemy through unqualified leaders. The picture on the left shows students working together using four boards to get from point “A” to “B”. It was a task in communication, trust and commitment.  Mr. Steve was not allowed to “coach” which was a task in and of itself!

Some Numbers

If you are looking for a reliable urban ministry in which to share and show the love of Jesus, please consider serving at The DOCK Ministries. These students need and deserve an adult who will show them someone cares for them. Your help is needed.  We do not want to limit the number of students due to the lack of volunteers.

Thank you to the volunteers (past, present and future) for you are the hands and feet of Jesus Christ!
